Harriet Tubman was born into slavery in Maryland, and worked as a nanny, cook, farmhand, and woodcutter. In 1849 she escaped to Pennsylvania but never forgot the many other slaves. She returned more than 13 times using the Underground Railroad to lead others to freedom. During the Civil War she worked as a scout and a spy for Unionists, who wanted to abolish slavery. Harriet believed black people deserved jobs and health care, and that women deserved the vote.
Her doll is approximately 9”, and is wearing a light grey skirt with white shawl and cap.
